VOLUNTEER HOURS REMINDER: Dee Costantino, our community service officer reminds you that she needs your 2011 volunteer hours turned into her in December. PLEASE KEEP A WRITTEN RECORD DURING THE YEAR. Dee collects the information for Johnson County retired educators, totals them up, and then reports them in December to the IRTA Community Service State Chair person whose committee then reports to the annual IRTA representative assembly.
Remember to divide your hours into YOUTH (UNDER 18) and OTHER. Also remember to count any travel and/or prepatation time as part of your volunteer hours.
Please do not send them to the IRTA office as Dee sends them to the Community Service State Chairman who lives in Handcock Counnty.
You may bring them to her any of the general meetings, call her at 317-888-2642, or mail them to her at:
Dee Costantino 934 Sleeply Hollow Place, Greenwood IN 46142
THANK YOU FOR THOSE HOURS! THEY ARE IMPORTANT. You can estimate your December hours.
OPPORTUNITY TO HELP JOHNSON COUNTY STUDENTS:
Community Service volunteer work can help in getting the 13th check.
The Indiana Retired Teachers Association (IRTA) uses total volunteer hours from JCRTA and other local affiliates in their efforts to convince the state legislature that retired teachers deserve a COLA and/or 13th check. The state legislators are impressed that retired educators continue to serve their community without pay by volunteering in a variety of ways.
Please keep track of the number of monthly volunteer hours you provide any organization or cause. If you are helping some organization or individual(s) that is not a family member and not getting paid, then you can count your time as volunteering.
There is a form at http://retiredteachers.org/Community%20Service.html that you can print out that will help you keep track of your volunteer hours. The newsletter also contains this form.
