WHY RENEW INDIANA DRIVER LICENSES AS SOON AS POSSIBLE IF IT IS DUE FOR RENEWAL IN 2012
More than 12 million Hoosiers will need to renew their driver's licenses in 2012. That is several times the usual amount of renewals in a year. The huge number of renewals in 2012 came about due to the anticipated changes in licenses that were to go into effect in 2012 as a result of homeland security requirements. The DMV encourages drivers renew now to avoid delays that may occur by waiting until 2012. If your license is up for renewal anytime in 2012 you can renew NOW and not have to wait until 2012.
You can renew your license on-line at www.in.gov/bmv/ If you do not have a SecureID, but want to have the SecureID you must go to the branch and take several documents with you. What you need can be found at www.in.gov/bmv/. A secure ID (gold star in upper right of license) will help you get a passport and help speed up checking in at airports. If you are 70 or older you cannot renew on-line. Those of us who are 70 and older must go to the branch, pass the vision test, then pay the $21.00 fee.
IRTA SCHOLARSHIPS: The Indiana Retired Teachers Association (IRTA) offers eight $1,500 scholarships each year. They are available for college sophomores or juniors who are majoring in education at an Indiana college or university. The applicant must be an Indiana resident and the child, grandchild, legal dependent, or spouse of an active, retired, or deceased member of the Indiana State Teacher's Retirement Fund (TRF).
