Welcome to the the website of the Johnson County Retired Teachers Association (JCRTA) of Johnson County Indiana. The purposes of the JCRTA and this website are to:
A. Serve and support Indiana retired educators living in Johnson County, Indiana or those who retired from any of the Johnson County public schools.
B. To familiarize active teachers nearing retirement (55 and older) concerning the benefits of the two organizations. Click on the Membership tab to see how to become an Associate Member for $5 a year.
C. Be an active affiliate of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association (IRTA) The two organizations work together to promote membership, legislation, and other projects designed to improve the economic and social status of Indiana retired educators. Information concerning the IRTA can be found at www.retiredteachers.org You can also click on the membership tab above for additional information.
INDIANA AND WEST VIRGINA ARE THE ONLY TWO STATES WHOSE TEACHER'S RETIREMENT FUNDS ARE NOT FULLY FUNDED. THE STATE OF INDIANA OWES THE TEACHER RETIREMENT FUND $11 BILLION DOLLARS. The state is slowly making payments to repay the funds, but IRTA would like to see the pace of repayment speed up.
INDIANA IS ALSO ONE OF THE FEW STATES THAT DOES NOT RECEIVE A (COLA) Cost of Living Adjustment automatically each year. Our state legislative process must approve the COLA and the amount of the COLA each year. This is vital for those retired educators who are on fixed incomes.
IRTA has been representing the retired educators of Indiana since 1950. It is the TRUE voice of Indiana retired educators and is not affiliated with the Indiana State Teachers Associaion (ISTA), or the Teachers Retirement Fund (TRF).
IRTA is the organization that has lobbied the state legislature each year for a Cost Of Living Adjustment (COLA) for the retired educators of Indiana. This is vital for those on a fixed income and is appreciated by all retired Indiana educators.
We encourage retired and non retired educators to join both the local (JCRTA) and the state (IRTA) Please check the membership tap above for information on how to join.
YOUR VOLUNTEER HOURS are IMPORTANT in obtainig the COLA: Please read why by clicking the volunteer tab above.
